For defensive players in the NFL, their top award is the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. While the NFL MVP award is the sport’s most prestigious individual award and attracts the most attention, it’s completely dominated by offensive players (especially quarterbacks).

The NFL's best defensive player once again resides in the Mile High City. The NFL's 2025 Defensive Player of the Year award was given to Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II. Surtain beat out Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson,

Pat Surtain II just had one of the best seasons ever by a cornerback. Thankfully, the rest of the NFL was keen on that and awarded the Denver Broncos cornerback the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Surtain is now the second player in Broncos history to win the award.
