Israeli drones were on Monday overflying Beirut and its suburbs at low altitudes, the state-run National News Agency reported.The Israeli army meanwhile fired a mortar shell at the al-Awayda area on the outskirts of the southern border town of Kfar Kila as well as four artillery shells at an area between the border towns of al-Taybeh and Adaisseh.

The airstrikes on the southern outskirts of the Lebanese capital, an area where Hezbollah holds sway, were some of the heaviest since a U.S.-brokered cease-fire came into effect in November.
