Protests over the immigration crackdown have been held in major cities throughout the U.S. in recent days. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined fellow Democratic mayors across the country Wednesday in calling for an end to the raids, which she called a provocation by the White House.

The public fight between California Gov. Gavin Newsom and President Donald Trump keeps intensifying, with name calling, insults and accusations traded over television and social media networks.

The National Guard has at times detained protesters in its deployment to Los Angeles, an official said Wednesday, as demonstrations against Immigration and Customs enforcement raids spread to other major cities.

The curfew went into effect in part of downtown Los Angeles amid ongoing protests over the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

Since the start of the protests, the Los Angeles Police Department has arrested 385 people, USA Today reported on Wednesday.

The downtown curfew encircles the downtown civic center, including City Hall, the main county criminal courthouse, LAPD headquarters and federal buildings.

Demonstrations against immigration raids began in Los Angeles last week and have spread across the country, including to Texas. More are planned this weekend.

White House "border czar" Tom Homan said that protests in Los Angeles are complicating immigration raids, making them more "difficult" and more "dangerous."
