One of the surprises at the 2025 NBA draft was the Portland Trail Blazers selecting Chinese Yang Hansen at No. 16 overall, a player many considered a fringe first-round prospect at best.

Yang Hansen was the 16th pick after averaging 16.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, three assists and 2.6 blocks in 45 appearances last season in China.

The Trail Blazers‘ offseason took a dramatic turn when reports confirmed Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon will purchase the franchise from Paul Allen’s estate.

Everyone thought the Blazers could have drafted Yang Hansens later than No. 16, but as it turns out, another team was prepared to grab him right after Portland.

Yang Hansen also had an impressive showing at Summer League, including his playmaking abilities and offensive skillset. He averaged 10.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in three games.
