The White House has temporarily relaxed duties on parcel imports from China that entered the country without duty prior to May 2, but efforts continue to eliminate the de minimis exemption altogether.

The United States will cut the "de minimis" tariff for low-value items imported from China, a White House executive order said on Monday, further de-escalating a potentially damaging trade war between the world's two largest economies.

The news comes after Washington and Beijing came to a temporary trade agreement that was hailed as a “total reset” in relations between the two countries.
