Millions of Britons are bracing for Storm Floris with predicted winds of up to 85mph already causing severe travel disruption. A yellow warning for wind for northern parts of the UK became active at 6am on Monday and will last until 6am on Tuesday.

Passengers are being warned to expect major disruption as Storm Floris batters the UK - with several areas covered by 'do not travel' warnings. The Met Office has issued two weather warnings for today (August 4), with strong winds expected to cause disruption, while heavy rain is also forecast.

Storm Floris, named by the Met Office, is predicted to have "unseasonably strong winds". The amber warning covers a wide area from the central belt - including Glasgow and Edinburgh - to the Highlands. Gusts of up to 85mph are likely to hit exposed western coastlines and hills, while winds of 70mph are expected elsewhere.
