Apple currently uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT for limited functions within Siri. Users on supported iPhones can use it to answer web search queries. However, Apple is yet to fully integrate it with iOS or Siri.

For months, Apple has been working to get its AI-enhanced Siri back on track after delaying the overhauled assistant’s launch in March. Apple later appointed Vision Pro head Mike Rockwell as the leader of AI and Siri after CEO Tim Cook “lost confidence” in the team’s former chief, John Giannandrea.

The iPhone maker has talked with both companies about using their large language models for Siri, according to sources.
