ISHPEMING, MI -- A man accused of assaulting another man with a meat tenderizer during an incident on New Year’s Eve has been referred for a competency exam. According to WLUC-6, Zachary Lewis, 30, appeared in Marquette County District Court for a preliminary exam last week, but that exam was disposed until Lewis can undergo the competency exam.

Michigan residents could see winds as strong as 55 mph Monday, the National Weather Service said. The weather service said a wind advisory is in effect for most of Michigan from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday because of the potential for winds gusting between 45 mph and 55 mph.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - NMU alumnus John Berry and his wife Shirley have already established themselves as supporters of current and future generations of students. The Berrys continued their support by donating $3.5 million to the school Monday. NMU President Brock Tessman says these funds will be used for three things.

The coldest actual temperature at an official Michigan observing site was 28 degrees below zero at Ironwood Tuesday morning. The coldest wind chill to be found was 50 below zero, also in that area. Here are the approximate low temperatures for Tuesday morning, Jan. 21.

Although there likely isn’t another perch that large swimming in Lake Independence today, it still supports great perch, pike, walleye, and smallmouth bass fisheries.
