The Chicago Bears plan to interview former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll for their head-coaching job Thursday, a league source confirmed Tuesday. ESPN first reported the news. The outlet and others also reported Tuesday that the Dallas Cowboys denied the Bears’ request to interview Dallas coach Mike McCarthy for the vacant coaching job.
Seahawks hopefuls may have been wishing for draft-pick compensation in exchange for Carroll, sort of how Sean Payton was traded from New Orleans to Denver two offseasons ago. That won’t happen. Carroll is free to coach elsewhere and the Seahawks wouldn’t benefit from him filling a head coaching vacancy.
