Myers, 40, a native of Orange, California, will run as a Democrat in the usually blue state and uphold a local tradition of A-listers trying their hand at politics. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the 38th governor of the state, got his start in acting, and Ronald Reagan, a California governor before becoming president, also dabbled in showbiz.

The bid comes after Myers said earlier this year that he was taking on a GOP stalwart in the California House of Representatives.
