Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took holy dips in sacred river waters in the northern city of Prayagraj on Wednesday as he joined millions of people at the Maha Kumbh Mela, a week after dozens died in a stampede at the event.

Prime minister Narendra Modi landed in Prayagraj on Wednesday morning to attend the Maha Kumbh fair. On reaching He took a boat ride to Triveni Sangam where is set to take a holy dip. The PM’s visit comes on Wednesday, when polling is underway for the Delhi Assembly elections.

The Triveni Sangam is the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna and is the site of Maka Kumbh where nearly 30 crore people have taken the dip so far. Hindu religious belief says that mythical river Saraswati also joins Ganga and Yamuna at Sangam.

After his ritual bath, Modi expressed his gratitude, saying, "The 'snan', or the 'holy dip', at the 'sangam' is a moment of divine connection. May Maa Ganga bless all with peace, wisdom, good health, and harmony."

After reaching Prayagraj, the Prime Minister took a boat tour in the Yamuna River with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He was seen sporting a bright saffron-coloured jacket and blue trackpant.
