Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser is suing a sheriff's deputy who Weiser says told ICE officials in an encrypted Signal chat to a woman who was allegedly in the U.S. on an expired visa, in violation of state law.

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said Tuesday that he had taken legal action against a Mesa County sheriff’s deputy over an alleged violation of state laws prohibiting coordination between local police and federal immigration agents.

Mesa County sheriff’s deputy Alexander Zwinck told immigration agents “we better get some bitchin' Christmas baskets from you guys” after helping them detain two different drivers pulled over in June.
