A man in his 50s has died after being hit by a car in the layby of a major UK motorway. Emergency responders were called to reports of a collision between two cars between Junctions 8 and 7 of the M23 just before 6.30am on Sunday morning. The victim was said to have been outside his car at the time of the fatal crash.

Emergency services have been working at the scene of a serious crash which has closed a section of the M23. Police said the crash happened near Merstham, in Surrey, at about 06:30 BST.
Talks held in Doha over a ceasefire agreement between the Congolese government and M23 rebels, who are backed by Rwanda, have stalled. Meanwhile, fighting has resumed in South Kivu.
