A female lifeguard was impaled so deeply with a beach umbrella at the Jersey Shore that it had to be cut into smaller pieces with a saw before she could be taken to the hospital, officials said.

The victim had been attempting to "control" the umbrella from her lifeguard tower when she fell and became impaled, an official told Nexstar.
