The Major League Baseball trade deadline is 6 p.m. ET this coming Thursday, July 31, and the action is beginning to pick up. This past weekend we saw Josh Naylor go to the Mariners and Ryan McMahon go to the Yankees,
That seemed to position Vientos as the club’s third baseman of the future in spite of his lackluster work with the glove last season. Unfortunately for the Mets and Vientos, however, things have gone off the rails this year.
One season later, Vientos has become a non-factor in the Mets lineup. This season, he’s hitting .226 with a .638 OPS. He hasn’t hit a home run since May. Carlos Mendoza hasn’t been penciling him into the lineup much with his massive regression.
