Ken Paxton is asking that California law enforcement officers be allowed to arrest Texas House Democrats who are staying in the state, according to a lawsuit the attorney general filed Friday. It’s the second time this week Paxton has petitioned a state to allow civil arrest warrants issued by the Texas House to be enforced outside of state lines.

Texas’ Republican attorney general and a GOP Illinois state senator filed a petition in more conservative Adams County rather than where Texas lawmakers are located in suburban Chicago.

Texas is asking a court in Illinois to enforce its warrant for the arrest of Democratic lawmakers who fled the state in an attempt to stop its redistricting efforts. More than 50 Democrats left Texas last week to deny Republicans a quorum in the state house in an attempt to block passage of a new congressional map.
