The Houston-based company Sunnova Energy, which specializes in residential solar panel installations, has filed for bankruptcy after months of mounting pressure to stay afloat amid layoffs, shifts in leadership and financial burdens.

A subsidiary of the energy company filed petitions seeking relief under Chapter 11 of the United States’ bankruptcy code on June 1. Sunnova Energy International Inc. and Sunnova Intermediate Holdings, LLC filed for bankruptcy in the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas on Sunday.
