A section of the M6 is still shut after a massive oil spill sparked travel chaos for motorists and brought traffic to a standstill. The lorry smashed into a central reservation at 1pm on Monday near Preston that resulted in a "significant diesel spillage". Emergency services, as well as Highway officials, raced to the scene.

Rush hour traffic has been hit by severe delays in Lancashire after the M6 northbound was closed overnight and only recently reopened. National Highways North West said a lorry had been involved in a collision on Monday evening and had come to rest on the central reservation between junctions 31 and 32 northbound by Preston.

Emergency services are on the scene following an incident on stretch of the M6 in Lancashire. The motorway is currently closed northbound between J31A for Longridge and J32 for the M55 Broughton Interchange. This is due to a crash, Lancashire Police say. The force has been approached for further information.

Live traffic maps show that most roads in Preston are heavily congested due to the M6 closure. There is 60-minute delay northbound and a 90-minute delay southbound. A spokesman for National Highways said: “Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
