Thousands of San Fernando Valley residents were expected to remain without water through the weekend as repair work continues days after their service was first interrupted on Tuesday.

Days after Granada Hills and Porter Ranch lost water service, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass and other officials urged thousands of customers to stop using water, saying toilet flushes and lawn sprinklers were slowing repairs.

More than 9,200 Department of Water and Power customers in Granada Hills and Porter Ranch remain without water service Saturday, and the interruption is expected to continue through the weekend. The DWP said crews needed to excavate 24 feet underground to access and repair a valve that was damaged Tuesday.
