Avelo's CEO told The Ledger in February that the airline would begin direct flights to Michigan, but when and where was still in flux. Flights begin this summer.

The airline will start flying nonstop to Grand Rapids, Michigan and Long Island, New York in June. It is the only airline offering nonstop service between Central Florida and these two destinations. Avelo said one-way fees will start at $69 and operate twice weekly.

Avelo, formerly a charter service known as Casino Express or Xtra Airways, launched on April 28, 2021, the town and airline said. The airline flies to dozens of U.S. cities, including Albany, New Haven and Hartford, as well as Cancun, Mexico; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, according to the company's website.
