A North Carolina appeals court on Friday sided with a Republican candidate for a seat on the state's top court who is contesting the results of last November's election by finding that thousands of the ballots cast should not be counted unless voters can swiftly fix issues with their voter registration.

After a Democratic incumbent appeared to have narrowly won, her Republican challenger sued in a case that has been ongoing since November.

The North Carolina Court of Appeals has ordered 60,000 voters who submitted ballots without key identification information to prove their eligibility or have their votes tossed in the still-undecided 2024 state Supreme Court race.
